Getting Marine Corp fit

While Marine Corp. boot-camp is designed to get recruit into shape there are certain physical standards that must be met before a potential recruit is allowed to ship out in the first place. These standards may seem simple at first, but if you aren't already in the habit of working out you may be surprised how difficult they can be too meet.
Potential recruits are expected to stay below the maximum weight for their height as well as perform adequately on the IST (Initial Strength Test). Currently standards for incoming recruits are a minimum of two pull ups (12 second flexed arm hang for females), 35 crunches and a time of no more than 13:30 on a one and a half mile run (10:00 one mile run for females).
By the end of boot camp recruits will be expected to pass the PFT (Physical Fitness Test) which is more demanding. There are several things you can do if you are thinking of joining the Marine Corp. to help get yourself in shape before leave for recruit training.
