How to reach your goals in life

Setting and reaching your goals

Are you ready for a challenge? Setting goals and reaching them can be a challenge because you may want to give up before you reach them, but if you keep pressing onward to reach your goals, you will be thankful you hung in there.

Each goal you have set for yourself and have reached will give you a feeling of accomplishment. This will also help you to press onward and become determined to continue to set more short term and long term goals because you have already succeeded.

You also might want to display the goals you have reached like it shows in the picture. This kind of display or any other way you want to show your accomplishments with your short term or long term goals will give you a feeling of successfulness because you reached goals that you have set for your life.

Instructions
Step 1
Setting goals

In order to reach your goals, you need to set some goals. Setting short term goals will help you to start working toward reaching your long term goals.

Short term goals can be reading a page or two in a book you want to read; reading five minutes in the Bible; writing a page or two of a short story or book; exercising five minutes a day, or any other short term goals you want to set. It's important to set them so you know you can succeed.

Short term goals are the steps you need to take to reach your long term goals. For example, a long term goal might be to graduate from college. Your short term goals would be to plan your courses and take a few each semester.

A long term goal might be to publish a book. You need to set short term goals such as learning how to write, coming up with a book idea, planning your book, writing your book a chapter at a time, editing your book, and locating a publisher or self-publish your book.

Step 2
Writing out your short term goals

Your next step toward reaching your goals is to write out your short term goals that you want to pursue in order to reach your long term goal. It's important to write out each short term goal and what your plans are to reach each one.

For example: You want to write a mystery novel.

Your short term goal would be to learn about the elements of fiction, so you can know how to develop each element in your novel.

After you have learned the elements of fiction, you need to take each one and write down some information that you might include in your novel.

Another short term goal would be to write a summary of each chapter.

After you breakdown the long term goal into the short term goals, you will be working toward the long term goal. The short term goals you complete will give you a feeling of success on the way to meeting the long term goal, which is writing a mystery novel.

Step 3
Reaching your long term goals

After you have reach each of your short term goals, you will have started reaching your long term goal.

For example, your goal was to write a mystery novel. If you have completed each short term goal, you can put those goals together and write your first draft of your mystery novel. However, you aren't finished with the long term goal. You need to edit your first draft by looking for grammar mistakes, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, sentence structure, paragraph structure, and how smoothly it reads from paragraph to paragraph.

While you are reading your first draft, you need to check the dialogue and narration. Think about these questions: Are your characters realistic? What about your setting? Did you use description? Did you plant clues throughout your novel? Are you satisfied with the ending? Did you miss anything in your novel that wasn't solved in the ending? Will readers be satisfied with your novel?

If you are happy with the way your novel is written, your next step is to seek out a publisher who might be interested in reading it, or you can self-publish your book and market it yourself. You'll feel especially successful when you have sold your first copy of your novel.
